animation

My most recent Flash project was a simple, interactive map of Japan for an educational website. The whole piece took about 2 hours from start to finish! Whew.

The next piece is a Flash animation that was converted into an old-school animated GIF file. It was finalised as an animated GIF due to a compatibility issue with the target machines. The image was conceived in a satirical fashion for a non-profit (internal) electronic publication and I do not claim any association with Apple.

The e.e. cummings poetry piece was designed for a notional publishing house called "Poesy". My original concept was to present the slightly eccentric poet sitting cosily on a Chesterfield chair in front of a toasty fireplace (please feel free to light it up!). The loungeroom metaphor is quite effective in allowing the viewer to explore aspects of cummings' bohemian lifestyle, much of which seems to have involved smoking and finding clever ways to rearrange the laws of grammar.

If you're interested in cummings' unique poetry, try popping here.

The next animation is the first in a series of historical pieces that were designed to show the impact, or lack thereof, of Television during a 1939 presentation at New York's World's Fair. The piece was a prototype and the final animation had a synchronised vocal track to accompany it.

Interestingly, RCA spent 7 years developing their prototype TV for the 1939 New York World's Fair and had the case constructed of Lucite (a transparent mineral) to show the audience that there was no trickery involved! TV didn't quite hit the mark at that point in history, I guess that it was ahead of it's time? I used the animated Adolf Hitler to illustrate the lack of programming content, whilst cunningly setting the time period ;-) The animation is quite light hearted and owes kudos to the talented duo Matt Stone and Trey Parker of 'South Park' fame for the animatic styling of the characters.

The final screenshot is an animation for a piece called "Earth". It was my first ever animated Flash piece and was completed for a University assignment.

Keep coming back, as there will be more animations popping up soon.
