\\\ g'day /// This year's been a bit of a shocker and I feel like I've sculled 2 Pan-Galactic Gargle Blasters. I'm half way through the Graduate Diploma of Learning & Teaching (CQU) and can't wait to finish. I was hoping to start the Masters of Visual Art - Animation in 2008, but I think I need a break from study.... To make matters worse, I'm still in shock from Wales' last Rugby match against Australia. The first game was sensational so I'm at a loss to understand game 2. It was almost as if aliens had abducted the entire Welsh team and replaced them with replicas that couldn't play.....unbelievable. Damn you George Gregan ;-) |
During 2007, The Queensland Animators Group Inc. is continuing with its long-running 'life drawing' sessions. The sessions are conducted in the QPIX building at Wooloongabba and usually run every second Monday evening between 7-9pm. It's the cheapest nudity that you'll find in Brisbane ( $7 for QA members and $10 for non-members.) Just bring your paper and pencils, easels and models are supplied ;-) I've added a small update to my studio page. Yes, now that I've got a wee bit of 'downtime' in between semesters, I've decided to dig in and finish that old Samurai sketch that I started off last year. I'm still adding content for the great folks at the Norman Lindsay Gallery and Museum. Originally, myself and some uni colleagues were nominated for the 2007 AIMIA awards in the 'student' category for this site (we didn't get a gong, but it was great to be nominated!) After you finish here, pop across to lostateminor.com (they recently used one of my photomedia pieces as a website banner - check their archive) Zac and Zolton have their fingers on the art & design pulse and have a great collection of contemporary, global artists. |
Who the?
My name is James Picton and I'm a Bachelor of Multimedia (Distinction) qualified Australian freelance artist who dabbles in the traditional visual arts and also the pixel-pushing black arts of multimedia... [ more ]
what the?
Multimedia or 'New Media' (as it's now known) covers everything from interactive games, Computer-Based Learning (CBL) and edu-tainment products to Internet websites and animation. It can educate, inspire and entertain. It's a big playing field, and I'm mainly focussed on the design side of the house; I'm not a code monkey, and make no claims to be one ( I am however, friends with a number of code monkeys...)
my Skills
I'm flexible, really flexible and my solutions combine the traditional arts with their contemporary 'New Media' cousins.
My main strengths are:
- illustration (traditional or digital, storyboards) ,
- animation (Flash),
- conceptual art (character design, ideas, products),
- design (web, logos, PowerPoint templates), and
- photography
weapons of choice
Coming from a traditional art / illustration background I like to put my ideas on paper before I start pixel bashing. I've found that this really gives me an edge and speeds up my workflow substantially, ensuring that I can meet tough deadlines.
My favourite artistic mediums are: pencil, pen and ink, acrylic, water paint, Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator, Painter IX and Dreamweaver. Mixed-media experimentation can lead to some truly cool outcomes.
Please feel free to have a look around my site and drop me a line if you're interested in my services.
